I purchased this collection with a haul of all the accessories in one, then another haul of all the luggage. When this rose gold collection of highly coveted luggage launched, I was all over it! After using each item for over two years and several international and domestic trips, here is the verdict.

Would I purchase this again? Is it worth it?

THE LUGGAGE TAG

This was supposed to be one of the most helpful things out of this entire collection that would have made my life easier. Instead, it is a pain in the tuchus. The battery is not rechargeable and is less than the legal five volts. The voltage has to do with the amount of power it takes from the aircraft itself, so it is important to be careful. 

The luggage tag itself, once I removed the battery charger from it, is okay. It is made of plastic rather than the preferred leather. It comes in my colours and is hard to open. I like that, because that means people cannot look at your information when you do not want them to. It is also easy to add to your luggage handles and simple to remove.

THE MEDIUM HAT BOX

Compliments know no bounds when it comes to donning this redux on vintage luggage. However, I wish it had a band on one side to attach to my larger luggage when shlepping it around. After a while, it hurts the shoulders. It needs some wheels, and elastane band, or anything to support its weight on another carrier. 

I used this to pack for a week, because I am an extremely minimal packer in general. It also stores under a small plane’s seating arrangements. Storing carry ons in the overhead compartment is the bane of my commercial flight travels. I have also seen other hat boxes of various dimensions with some sort of support — especially with a stretchy band to hold onto a larger luggage — from other brands. 

If you absolutely adore the pure aesthetics of the hat box, get it. I deliberately planned to fit a perfectly sized hat for this, but never go to use it for that trip. Instead, I regularly find myself using it as a weekender pack luggage.

THE LARGE SUITCASE

This piece of luggage is really pretty, however, I noticed a ton of other people have it, and it scratches easily. It looks very plastic, yet the make of it is high quality and definitely built to last at least a few long trips. In the long run, I would give this to someone else who wants to use it — say, if I have a daughter and she thinks it is cute. I have a distinct feeling this will not last too long.

However, I would purchase something sturdier, because I had a friend who worked in the airport back in the day. He said to either splurge on luggage that is military level stalwart or find something cheap, because it gets thrown like a rugby prolate spheroid. Next time, I want to purchase something somewhat okay looking, but really high quality made. 

I do not like attractive luggage, because I heard so many stories of people getting their items stolen. In North America, it is illegal to lock one’s check-in luggage. If you do not fly private for a trip or if your check in will be out of sight on a commercial carrier, there is a chance of being due for a rude awakening. I travel a lot, so I do not want to risk it. I do not mind having ugly luggage nobody wants to touch.

ITEMS I WOULD PURCHASE AGAIN

SILK SLEEP MASK & PILLOW SET

This originally came in multiple patterns and colours. Now there are only a handful available, and rarely a sundry of designs. However, I got this in the metallic blush to match my entire rose gold collection. The reason being so that it is harder to steal when people see that all my luggage matches, and there is no mistaking it is mine if I talk to airport security. Yes, this has happened before especially after flying to over forty countries by twenty-three years old. Also, I have heard it all.

THE SHOULDER PILLOW

What are the pros and cons? It is visually beautiful, stands out so you can recognise it is yours, and is really comfortable when you need the support. Those are the pros, but as I get older and earn more money, I find myself using this less, because I rather simply fly business class on an extremely long flight now. If you are younger, adventurous, and willing to forego the comforts of literally being able to lie down on a reclining seat, this is the option for you. 

THE SLEEPING MASK

Sleeping eye masks are not my thing considering they mess up your hair when you remove them, leaving indentations. However, if you are flying private on a big enough jet with a shower, disregard what I just stated, and opt for this light-shielding silk mask. It is definitely worth it, and also makes your jet lag easier when you force yourself to sleep in quarters that do not necessarily have blackout drapes.

THE VANITY CARRIER

This is genius considering I saw one for much more with lights and a mirror stored inside. There are many issues I have with the lights and mirror version of this vanity from another brand. The first issue is the mirror can break when being thrown around, say in the back of a car or when an accident happens. Secondly, when the lights are too hot, it can melt the contents of your vanity.

What I like about it is that sometimes hair tools are bulky, makeup brushes are needed for an especially glam trip, and when you are someone who does not want any surprises in her beauty routine — you need something reliable. It is small enough to pack under your seat on a plane, in your lap on the road, and is the perfect setting at a hotel to prep your glam look. 

It even has an elastic band to easily slide on top of my large luggage after a long trip. This has saved my life, and I used it as my main airport bag when traveling internationally on several occasions. There are so many slots and compartments to help you stay organised with a mesh covering so you can see everything is organised and present.

THE MINI CARRY ON

This is one of my favourite items in my Calpak arsenal. There are so many colours and cute designs. It is my dream luggage, because it is so tiny, cute, fits all my things with my style of minimal packing, and has four wheels. It makes your life WORLDS EASIER at the airport, on a plane, and getting to your destination.

Part of packing light with this tiny carry-on is that it is really easy to lift from cars, to your hotel if there are flights of stairs, and out of the overhead compartment. I routinely fit this under my seat, because it fits perfectly. It even has snap buttons on attachment ribbons on the sides of the interior so it can prop itself up as you pack or unpack.

I cannot rave about this enough, and if you are a light packer like me, this is ideal. If you have zero upper body strength, this is for you. If you travel on business consistently or leave for long weekends, this is ideal. 

THE TECH ORGANISER

This is a game changer when it comes to staying organised. The number one issue I have when packing is going on a long trip and having a hard time finding what I need. Usually, I find myself untangling a fishnet of wires in a reused Ziploc bag haha. Oh, and do not get me started on the rubber bands I save all year for those wires to stay in tact. Yet become undone and tangled again no matter how hard I try.

It stores your batteries, outlet plugs, USB to lightning or USB-C wires all in the same place. You can even use it to store your passport, boarding passes, and all sorts of paperwork to stay organised. In other words, it is the holy grail for those who need all the help they can get staying on top of efficiency when having a smooth sailing trip.

The mesh, the compartments, the different colours and styles are endless. There is a little something for everyone, and this is an essential when staying sane on multiple trips, hopping around in one destination, and anything to do with your journey.

I have been through it all with cheap luggage, sad excuses for carry-ons from Amazon, and all sorts of baggage.
